I have been searching all over for a brand that is vegan. They all seem to have egg whites in them. I really find this strange since I remember serveral years ago buying some and it was vegan. Have they changed recipes, I wonder? I REALLY want to make those mallomoars!

  • Hey Christina, et al,

I'm SO sorry... in my haste to post the recipe, I didn't do my homework. I didn't realize that Fluff® (or the Kraft variety) had egg whites in them. Because I am not vegan, I went ahead with the Fluff® last night. Heavenly!

But, for those who want to potchkee a bit more, this came up when I searched on Marshmallow recipies:

    www.cookingforengineers.com/article.php

If you scroll down, there are ideas for replacing the geletin when making it at home. I'd guess that agar-agar might work, though they recommend "kosher gelatin" which is made from carrageenen.

I'm not sure if pre-made Marshmallows would work, but VeganSweets makes some, and they're pretty awesome. www.pangeaveg.com has them.

    Again, sorry for the misinfo.

    xoM
